Coir & preparation · WITH COCOA

How should I compare two cocopeat samples in a trial?

Change as few other factors as possible so a difference in performance can be interpreted.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Coir grades can behave differently, but an uneven greenhouse location or different plant material can obscure the comparison.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Use comparable plants, containers and starting conditions for both materials.
  2. Distribute repeated units across representative positions rather than keeping each material in one corner.
  3. Record preparation, management changes and observations consistently for both groups.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What could distort the comparison?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Different plant starting sizes

Use comparable planting material or record the difference before drawing conclusions.

One material in a hotter position

Distribute comparison units across positions so location is not confused with substrate.

Only one unit per material

Treat the result as an initial observation and repeat with representative units.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Write the trial objective and observation schedule before starting.

Keep in mind

Do not claim one substrate is superior from a single unreplicated plant.
