Coir & preparation · WITH COBY

What does cocopeat water-holding capacity actually tell me?

Read the units and method before comparing claims. Water retained per dry mass is not the same measurement as water volume within a filled container.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Coir holds water in its pore structure, but not every retained portion is equally available to plants. Practical irrigation decisions also depend on roots and crop demand.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Check whether the result is expressed by mass or volume.
  2. Confirm saturation, drainage and sample-packing conditions.
  3. Compare the laboratory result with container weight and crop observations.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

Which claim are you comparing?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Litres per kilogram

Clarify the moisture basis and method. Do not directly compare it with a percentage of container volume.

Percentage by volume

Request the test container and drainage conditions before treating differences as product advantages.

No method given

Ask for a documented measurement or run a representative trial before specifying the product.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Keep water retention, air space and usable container volume as separate entries in your evaluation.

Keep in mind

Higher retention is not automatically better when roots remain persistently wet.
