Should coco growbags sit directly on the greenhouse floor?

Consider the floor condition, drainage route and hygiene plan together. The support should keep the bag stable without trapping its drainage.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

The interface beneath a bag influences runoff movement and possible contact with soil, standing water and debris.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Inspect the area beneath bags after an irrigation event.
  2. Check for contact with soil or pooled drainage from other rows.
  3. Review access for cleaning and inspecting outlets.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What is under the bags?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Clean surface with free drainage

Monitor outlet access and keep the area free of debris as the crop grows.

Standing water or soil contact

Review a suitable raised or separated support with the grower and system designer.

A ground cover that forms pockets

Inspect folds and depressions; a cover is not useful if it traps contaminated water against bags.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Choose the support and cleaning procedure as part of the root-zone system.

Keep in mind

Do not assume a plastic floor covering alone prevents all contamination.
