Should I use black or white film around cocopeat?

Choose film with the growing environment and product specification in mind. Colour alone does not describe durability, temperature performance or suitability.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

The outer surface can change how the container receives solar energy. The actual root-zone result also depends on shading, airflow and exposure.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Check which surface faces outward in the intended installation.
  2. Compare root-zone temperatures in representative positions.
  3. Confirm the film specification and installation instructions.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What problem are you trying to solve?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Excess heating in exposed bags

Review shading and the intended reflective surface, then verify temperature in a trial.

Film installed inside out

Confirm orientation with the supplier before changing planted bags.

No measured temperature problem

Choose based on the agreed system specification rather than assuming one colour always grows better.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Use measured root-zone conditions to evaluate the film in your own greenhouse.

Keep in mind

Do not promise a fixed temperature reduction based only on film colour.
