Coir & preparation · WITH COBY

How much perlite should I mix with cocopeat?

Choose a blend around drainage and irrigation capacity, rather than copying a ratio from a different crop.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Perlite changes the physical behaviour of a coir mix, so the finished container needs testing.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Compare your container height and drainage
  2. Measure how a small trial mix wets and drains
  3. Check whether your irrigation can reliably supply the trial

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What is your starting point?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Wet fine coir

Trial a more aerated blend in a few representative containers.

Already coarse coir

Check whether added perlite offers a useful improvement before buying it.

No measurements

Run side-by-side containers before deciding on a ratio.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Record plant growth, moisture and irrigation use for both mixes.

Keep in mind

A universal percentage cannot account for every crop and container.
