Feed & EC · WITH DRIP

What causes a salt crust on cocopeat or growbags?

A visible crust is a reason to inspect the water and feeding system, not an exact salt measurement.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Evaporation can leave residues near the surface or drainage edges.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Compare source-water and feed EC
  2. Check for fertiliser spills and splash patterns
  3. Test representative root-zone samples consistently

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

Where is the deposit?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Near feed spills

Correct mixing or delivery leaks and clean equipment appropriately.

Across many bags

Review water chemistry and nutrient management.

Only at a drying edge

Check the root-zone result before assuming the whole bag is saline.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Use a laboratory water analysis if unwanted ions are suspected.

Keep in mind

Do not estimate sodium or potassium concentration from crust colour.
