Can direct fan airflow stress plants growing in cocopeat?

Air movement is useful, but a strong local jet is different from uniform circulation. Check the plants nearest the fan separately.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

A canopy exposed to more air movement may lose water differently even when its coir container receives the same treatment as the rest of the row.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Compare symptoms with fan direction and distance.
  2. Check whether leaves move excessively or show repeated mechanical contact.
  3. Observe root-zone moisture and climate near the affected plants.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

Where are symptoms concentrated?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Directly in the fan jet

Review fan positioning and distribution with the greenhouse operator.

Across the whole house

Investigate broader climate and root-zone conditions rather than one fan alone.

Only on physically rubbing leaves

Inspect support and contact points as well as air speed.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Reassess plant response after an appropriate airflow adjustment while keeping comparison records.

Keep in mind

Do not eliminate necessary ventilation or circulation as a blanket response to local stress.
