Why is damage worse on one side of plants in cocopeat?

A directional pattern can be more useful than the colour of a damaged leaf. Compare the affected side with nearby light, heat and airflow sources.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Coir root conditions may be uniform while the canopy experiences uneven exposure. The substrate should not be blamed before that pattern is checked.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Map the damaged side relative to walls, heaters, vents and sunlight.
  2. Compare plants at different distances from the suspected exposure.
  3. Check whether root symptoms show the same directional pattern.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What does the pattern follow?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

A heater or hot surface

Review clearance and local conditions with the equipment operator.

A bright edge or reflective surface

Assess light and temperature exposure and compare with protected plants.

No obvious environmental direction

Investigate root distribution and plant health with an adviser rather than forcing an exposure explanation.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Take photos that show both the plants and their surroundings.

Keep in mind

Do not change the coir blend solely because one exposed side of a canopy is damaged.
